The Office.

7:00 on a Friday night, where are you? I'm at the office. Still. Or as I informed the facebook world I'm "on a hot date at my office with discovery responses for 3 different cases, a torrid affair with an AAP, followed by cozying up with cases for the Florida Employment Law Letter..." Translation = "I'm drowning in work." Which, coupled with last months laziness, is killing my running routine. I've managed to get some running in this week thanks to the 40 minutes of weightlifting the volleyball team I coach does during my scheduled practices (I send them to the strength coach and split). However, its not enough to get ready for the 1/2 marathon. The reality hits when you are $100,000 in debt thanks to student loans and starting out as a young litigator work must come first. Therefore, as a result of my 12+ hour work days, things are not looking good for this Princess and the Disney 1/2...

On the bright side, despite my overall health suffering and my fitness dreams slowly turning to dust, I'm a billable hour machine. As for the rest of my Princess Posse, they seem to be right on track [pause for cheering and applause from Belle]. As for me, I'm going to keep trucking the best I can, work and volleyball coaching permitting, and re-evaluate at the end of January. Worst case scenario, this Princess won't be going to Disney world, but instead finding a race later in the year. The good news for you, is that means you get to spend longer reading my whining and complaints. ;)

I've fallen and I can't get up!

So, I'm at day two for this week's running routine and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm right on track to where I need to be in order to stay on track for the KY Derby mini-marathon. The only thing that scares me is that I am relying so much on the treadmill to train that I won't be able to run what I need to when I actually start hitting the pavement. Most blogs that I've read said that I should be just fine, but I have my doubts. For starters, my hip absolutely KILLS me when I run on the treadmill. I tend to favor my right side due to several sprains in my left ankle. I researched some stretches and they seem to make all things better in the world. I just hope that it doesn't end up being something more serious that it already is.

Besides the hip pain, the only other complaint I have is the ice-ridden path I have to walk in order to get to the gym. I nearly wiped OUT on the way to AND from the gym today. I guess my hip pain could be a whole lot worse than what it is! Plus, if you know me well, I am prone to falling and injuring myself quite frequently. For now, I will keep braving it through the ice and snow and will be thinking about spring time in my dreams.

The Prodigal [Daughter] Returns.

So, the month of December was not good for my training considering I might have ran twice in the last 30 days...might! Now, its a new year, so its time for a new start. I don't do the whole "New Years Resolution" thing since there is a low success rate for those. However, I will concede that January 1 is a nice clean starting point for things. So is Sunday, January 3. With that in mind, I managed to get to the gym today. I'm not saying that I did much of anything, but getting into gym clothes and getting there was enough to remind me that I actually like the gym and like working out. It wakes me up, makes me feel good during the day, and makes me sleep well at night. So time to get back in the routine of morning runs and gym time. I've managed to pick up a gym partner over the last few weeks, so hopefully he'll help me get out of bed at 5:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, because that, my friends, may take a miracle. It time to get my butt into gear or I'm never going to be able to finish the race that is in less than 60 days. So, its a New Year and the perfect time for better habits...however, I REFUSE to think of it as a damn "new years resolution." Now, if someone could please teach me how to turn my water into wine...I'd have a much better time at the gym...
